Monoprint is one of the most liberating forms of printmaking and this workshop is perfect for anyone who enjoys foraging and capturing nature. Each print is completely unique in pattern and texture. Working with a selection of wild foliage and flowers to create a selection of prints by hand and using the press.

Maximum of 4 people. Suitable for absolute beginners.

What experience do I need?

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with more experience. People with an established artistic practice will find they get a lot of new ideas from the unexpected designs they produce. Those who aren’t that confident about their drawing and imagery will also get a lot out of monoprint – simple shapes and an open mind will get you a long way with this process!

What will I make?

Previous students have made between 15 and 30 prints in a session – this is a fast, fun and experimental process! You’ll end up with a portfolio of colourful, layered prints on different papers.

Who is my tutor?

Sophie McIntosh is the founder of Hey Ho Print Co. She has been printmaking for over 20 years and running the print studio for 7 years. She has taught at Kingston University and Leeds College of Art and Design.

Do I need to bring anything?

All the inks, papers, tools and equipment needed to make monoprints will be provided by Hey Ho Print Co. This will include relief inks and rollers, plastic monoprint plates, and papers to print on. Students can bring sketchbooks, shapes, patterns or other images for inspiration, but this is not necessary – simple abstract shapes work well for monoprint, and you can come up with ideas in the class.

Where will the workshop take place?

Our specialist print studios are at 17 Pearl Street, in the centre of Saltburn town and are an easy base for a day of creativity. There is free on street parking outside the studio and we are located a short walking distance from the train station and bus stops.

Covid Safety

Our workshops and courses look a little bit different as we ensure safe procedures are in place in light of Coronavirus. The changes we have made include;

  • Fewer participants to allow for social distancing
  • Requesting that students attend the workshop with a mask or face covering
  • Hand sanitiser provided on entry
  • Shared aprons will not be provided so please bring your own apron or wear old clothes to the workshop

Full guidance on our Covid-19 policies will be emailed to you on booking or on request.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation, we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at to discuss any concerns you may have before booking.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
