In this workshop you will learn the basics of block relief printing, stamp making and designing a repeat pattern to print onto a piece of linen fabric.
Artwork will be transferred to easy carve rubber ready to carve intricate images and simple stamp shapes for a unique wall hanging or table runner.

Places are limited to a maximum of 4 people and is suitable for absolute beginners or those with intermediate experience.

What experience do I need?

This course is suitable for absolute beginners in both linocut and printing onto fabric, those with existing experience working with fabric will still benefit by exploring new ways of printing imagery onto cloth.

What will I make?

You will make one or more lino stamps, which you will use to print small samples and a large piece of linen fabric. This is raw-edged and will need sewing or sticking to form your final wall hanging if desired.

Who is my tutor?

Sophie McIntosh is the founder of Hey Ho Print Co. She has been printmaking for over 20 years and running the print studio for 7 years. She has taught at Kingston University and Leeds College of Art and Design.

Do I need to bring anything?

We will provide some sample-sized pieces of cloth for you to print on, as well as an A5 piece of lino for you to carve into one or more stamps. Lino carving tools and printing inks will be provided, as well as any other tools needed for the process.

We recommend that students bring up to a metre of plain cotton with them to the class. Please bring along reference photos, sketches and ideas if you wish, and we will have examples of patterns and designs to help inspire you.

Covid Safety

  • Fewer participants to allow for social distancing
  • Requesting that students attend the workshop with a mask or face covering

  • Shared aprons will not be provided so please bring your own apron or wear old clothes to the workshop

Full guidance on our Covid-19 policies will be emailed to you on booking or on request.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
